History Day

Each spring, thanks to a donation from Len and Jean Tomat and a donation from Cape Cod Five, the fourth grade students at Orleans Elementary School participate in History Day, where they learn what it was like to live in the days before electricity, cars, computers, and other modern technology. They take part in hands-on activities like quilting and woodworking, visit Nauset Beach to learn about our maritime history, and tour the Jonathan Young Windmill.

Heritage Day

Each fall, thanks to a donation from the Len & Jean Tomat fund, the fifth grade students who participated in History Day as fourth graders return for Heritage Day, where they visit Town Hall  and speak with town officials to learn about local government. They also return to our Meeting House where they focus on a particular historical topic in detail. Heritage Day culminates in December with an exhibit of student artwork based on this topic. Parents, relatives, and friends join the students, volunteers and OHS staff and Board members for a special reception honoring the young artists.

CG36500 Visits

School groups from as nearby as Nauset Middle School and as far away as Belgium have visited the CG36500 for a chance to board the boat and hear its story from our volunteer interpreters. If you would like to bring a group to see the boat, please contact us.
